History of Galáctica

 The origins of Galáctica

With the recovery of the Feria de Noviembre, in 1991, the Joven Cámara Económica de Vilanova, wanted to introduce some different elements in the forthcoming event. In a brainstorming session, one of the members of the organising group came up with the idea of a space dedicated to the world of inventions.

It was therefore proposed to introduce into the Feria de Noviembre, a multisectorial local fair, different monographic spaces, one of those being dedicated to inventions. The idea was taken up and a study was undertaken to analyse this sector and the find out information about existing events of this kind. On contacting the Club de Inventores Españoles it appeared that here was only one fair of this kind in Spain, which had been taking place in Ses Salines (Baleares) for the previous 2 years. It was also noted that Rentería (País Vasco), Granollers (Cataluña) and Madrid, among others, had held these kind of events but with negative results and no continuity. Moreover, the event in Baleares showed no signs of holding a third edition.

These disappointing results in Spain contrasted rather starkly with the prestigious international events which take place in Geneva, Brussels, Paris, Pittsburgh and Sidney, among others. Moreover, it was known that Spanish inventors frequently took part in these events.

It was clear that Catalonia and Spain had no point of reference in this field, although the Oficina Española de Patentes y Marcas registered every year hundreds of patents and utility models. Obviously the potential was there to try out a new project. The idea for a new event, apart from the Feria de Noviembre, was now being considered with its own calendar being drawn up.

Members of the Joven Cámara and the Asociación de Empresarios del Garraf (ADEG) decided that ADEG would assume the responsibility of organising this new fair dedicated to the world of inventions.
